Steps You Should Follow When Buying A New Air Conditioner

Dec 10 ,2014

New Air ConditionerIf you are considering buying a new air conditioner, there is a high chance that it is not going to be a ‘considered’ purchase.

By ‘considered’, we mean that it’s unlikely that you thought about it a while back and have put money aside for it, weighing up the pros and cons. It is much more likely that your existing one has broken and you’re looking for a quick replacement.

You should still consider all the options though, don’t just buy the first one that you come across, even better, talk to a professional about what you should be looking out for. In the meantime, a couple of points to think about.

SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating)

Look for a high SEER number; the higher the number, the more efficient the system will be. A higher rated system will likely cost more, but that will reflect in lower energy bills.

Size isn’t everything!

In this case, bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better. A system that is too large will struggle to remove the humidity from the indoor air, conversely, a unit that is too small won’t be able to cope, working at peak performance which will lead to increased wear and premature failure.

Cost VS Quality

Of course, just going out and buying the most expensive unit should mean that you are buying quality, but as technology (in general) improves, a lot of manufacturing processes have improved, this leads to reduced costs and better products, even at the lower end of the price scale.

It is always worth talking through the options with a professional, at Northern One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning, we have performed thousands of installations over the years.
