A new ductless mini-split air conditioning system in your home can be a beautiful thing. These advanced systems are efficient and provide consistent comfort in any room. The reason for the installation of a mini-split system varies for everyone, though. These units have numerous potential applications throughout residential homes in Minneapolis.

Whether you’re renovating, completing a new addition, or simply tired of your bulky air conditioning system, a mini-split could be the way to go!

Benefits of a Ductless Mini-Split System

There are numerous benefits to having a ductless mini-split system in your home. First and foremost, their small size and flexibility make appealing to many homeowners. You can customize your heating and cooling zones for specific rooms or even for the first and second floor of your home. Most of today’s models can accommodate up to four indoor air handling units, which means four unique zones or rooms, all connected to a single outdoor unit.

Furthermore, ductless mini-split systems are a breeze to install. Unlike central air conditioning systems, ductless systems do not require air ducts. The hook-up from the outdoor to the indoor units requires a three-inch hole through a wall to feed the conduit through. Of course, most manufacturers sell varying lengths of connecting conduits. You can reach up to 50 feet away.

Lastly, because mini-split systems do not have air ducts, they can avoid the significant energy loss associated with ductwork. An air duct system can account for a 30 percent loss of energy consumption in a central air conditioning system. It can be worse if the ducts are improperly insulated, damaged, or in an unconditioned space such as the attic or basement.

Myths of Ductless Mini-Split Systems

As with all new technology, there are myths surrounding ductless mini-split systems. We’re here to bust these misunderstandings.

Myth #1: Ductless Systems Are Only for New Construction

Today’s ductless mini-split systems are fantastic for well-insulated new construction. However, they can also be implemented in existing homes. The unit is easy to install and requires little space.

Myth #2: Uneven Cooling

Some claim that ductless mini-split systems provide uneven cooling throughout the home. Although mini-split systems do work differently from conventional air conditioning, they distribute air evenly throughout the home in the same way.

Myth #3: Ductless Systems Cause Reduced Air Quality

Many believe ductless systems reduce the indoor air quality in the home. In reality, these systems actually contain filters that purify the air before releasing cooled air into the home. The filters collect dust, dirt, and spores.
