How Air Handlers Keep Your Home Cool

If you have a properly running AC unit, your home will be adequately cool during the summer. A home with comfort issues needs to call Northern’s One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning for help.

How an Air Handler Works

The circulation of cold air in a home that has an air conditioner is through the fan inside the air handler. This fan can be single speed or variable speed. Many homes with a central air conditioning system will also have a furnace. This means the fan for the blower is used to circulate both cold air and warm air.

But what does an air handler do for your home?

Efficiency

The energy efficiency of the air handler for your air conditioning system is dependent on air flow. This means that you will get more cool air in your home by making sure the air filter is changed each month when the air conditioner is being used.

You should also make sure the filter for your furnace is changed at least once every 90 days. This will keep dirt out of your air ducts and make your air conditioner run more efficiently. You can also have an air conditioner tune-up performed each spring by a Minneapolis air conditioning specialist.

Comfort

The use of a variable speed fan means that the blower is running at various speeds. This will ensure the hot areas of your home are kept cool and at a comfortable level. A variable speed fan allows you to have consistent temperatures throughout your home. You will not have hot or cold air blowing when it is not needed.

Zoning

The flexibility provided by a variable speed fan make it a perfect match for the zoning of your home when a smart thermostat is being used. Smart thermostats will adjust the level of comfort for any room using the correct amount of air. This level of comfort is not provided by a programmable thermostat or single speed blower fan.
